Kazakh countryside

We went for a drive up to a lake we visited our first year. At the crest of a hill overlooking the lake, a guard stopped us and said we couldn't go any further. When we asked (in very broken Russian) when we could go, he said never (at least that's what it seemed like he said) so we left. The air was so clean and clear in the mountains we stopped by the side of the road to admire some wild horses in the distance. We noticed a yurt set up a little ways down off of a dirt track. We decided to investigate, so we drove up to it.

It turned out that they were shooting a commercial to use for the World Expo that is coming to Astana. The theme of the commercial was ancient vs. modern Kazakhstan, thus the solar panels and dish outside the yurt. They were working on herding some sheep through the pasture for a scene, but the sheep kept right on going, over the side of an embankment, and they had to be re-herded back up. Everyone was really nice about letting us walk around and check things out.

On the way down the mountain we stopped to taste the fresh spring water and fill up our water bottles. We also stopped at a  roadside market and bought veggies and my parents bought some presents for everyone.
